Today CMSS clients visited our local area to do some litter picking as part of our Earth day activity. We wanted to raise awareness about how we should take care of our environment.

One of our Traditions at the Centre is to decorate the centre with flags and Shamrocks and listen to traditional Irish music when celebrating St Patrick day.As usual we enjoyed Irish snacks and drinks, However this did not consist of Guinness and Jamersons. We will leave that for later this evening! One of our favourite activities we like to do on St Patrick's day is to plant Potatoes. These will be harvested after 100 days and cooked by the clients in the kitchen during the cooking sessions and then enjoyed by all.

Some of our clients work from the arts and crafts group, decorating the wish tree and celebrate Valentine’s Day

Step 1

To grow your own potatoes, you will need a pot with some soil inside it.

Step 2

Put some fertiliser into the soil and mix well

Step 3

Put the potatoes with the roots upward into the soil.

Step 4

This is what your pot should look like

Step 5

In approximately a months’ time you will see green shoots come up from the soil.

As the green shoots come through, keep them topped up with soil

.

Step 6

Then cover the potatoes with a small layer of soil

White flowers will appear on the shoots in about 80 days. Once these white flowers have died off, the potatoes will then be ready to harvest. Enjoy your potatoes
